Spaying and neutering are common surgical procedures performed by our veterinarians at Quirino Veterinary Centres in Cádiz y Gibraltar, where the ovaries and uterus are removed in females and the testes are removed in males. It is performed in a sterile operating room under general anesthesia, analgesia, constant monitoring, and supervision during recovery after the operation. In general, sterilization avoids uncontrolled or unwanted reproduction and the possible abandonment of puppies.
Spaying and neutering also reduces some behavioral problems attributed to hormones such as urine marking and dominance.
Neutered males: Reduces the risk of prostatic hyperplasia, perianal tumors, and testicular cancer.
Spayed Females: Reduces the risk of breast tumors. Eliminates the risk of heat and hormonal disorders, tumors in the ovaries, uterus and cervix, and uterine infections such as pyometra.
